Fagron Sterile Services US (FSS) welcomed Laura Bray, Founder and Chief Change Maker of Angels for Change, to its Wichita, KS, manufacturing facility. Laura toured FSS' recently expanded site, an extension designed to enhance operational efficiency and help meet the increasing demand for high-quality sterile medications nationwide.
The highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of a 2025 Project PROTECT grant award, recognizing FSS as the selected manufacturer to produce Sterile Water for Injection (SWFI), a foundational medication used to dilute injectable drugs for intravenous administration.
The grant supports FSS’s efforts to proactively address national shortages and bolster emergency preparedness by enabling swift, onshore production and distribution of SWFI during times of disruption.
Laura's visit emphasized the strength of a collaboration rooted in a shared commitment to patient care, safety, and the proactive prevention of drug shortages. In 2023, FSS was selected as a Project PROTECT grant recipient by Angels for Change, recognized for its role as the protector of preservative-free Dextrose 70% injection solution. This essential medication, used for hydration and blood sugar regulation, became increasingly at risk following widespread supply chain disruptions, particularly after the flooding and damage to Baxter's North Cove manufacturing site due to Hurricane Helene.
In partnership with Angels for Change, FSS completed the Preparation and Protective phases of Project PROTECT for Dextrose, helping support continued access for vulnerable patients, particularly those in NICUs and PICUs. This collaboration demonstrates how patient-focused partnerships can help strengthen the healthcare supply chain by anticipating disruptions and taking early action to mitigate them.
During her visit, Laura addressed the FSS team, reaffirming the importance of the work they do and its impact on patients' lives. One of the most heartfelt moments came when Gianna, a Shortage Warrior and daughter of Blanca, an FSS Fulfillment Technician, surprised Laura with flowers and a personal thank you, recognizing the role Angels for Change has played in ensuring children like her and other vulnerable patients receive the medications they need.
FSS' mission to create supply chain resiliency and advance patient safety aligns with Angels for Change’s cause to support access to critical medications and combat drug shortages.
